Nutrition and Food Resources

Good nutrition is essential for mental and physical well-being. Food is packed full of nutrients and calories, so let’s clear up what these two items are:
Nutrients – A substance that provides nourishment essential for the maintenance of life and for growth.
Calories – Tiny creatures that live in your closet and sew your clothes a little bit tighter every night. Jokes! A calorie is a unit that is used to measure energy. The calorie you see on a food package is actually a kilocalorie, or 1,000 calories.
Obesity in children is on the increase in SA at an alarming rate. Children need to know that what they eat today impacts their health in later years.

Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live in

Each teacher can encourage their learners to, as far as possible, choose wisely and rein in on that fast food. Here are some great resources on this important subject.
